El Método Directo para el aprendizaje de una lengua extranjera es, hoy en día, uno de los que obtienen mejores resultados a corto plazo. Este método ofrece al estudiante la capacidad inmediata de comunicarse en un nuevo idioma, hablando y entendiendo la nueva lengua. Básicamente, la idea del Método Directo es enseñar el nuevo idioma de la misma manera en que se aprende la lengua materna, aprendiendo a “pensar" y a hablar desde el principio, evitando al máximo el proceso de traducción mental. La selección del vocabulario, la secuencia del material presentado y las técnicas de enseñanza, están diseñadas para lograr a corto plazo las metas deseadas por el estudiante. Con el Método Directo, el alumno aprende la gramática inductivamente, sin explicaciones complicadas, a través de la práctica repetitiva en frases y situaciones del día a día, que harán con que el alumno asimile la regla de manera paulatina y saque sus propias conclusiones sobre su uso.
El énfasis principal de este método es la pronunciación correcta de las palabras y la interiorización de vocabulario nuevo a través de demostraciones prácticas, objetos o dibujos, y cuando se trata de términos abstractos, por medio de asociaciones de ideas en la nueva lengua.

The Direct Method is the best method for learning a foreign language, nowadays, as it obtains results in a short time. This method offers students the capability to communicate by speaking and understanding the new language immediately. The basic idea of the Direct Method is to teach the new language in a similar way to which the mother tongue is learned, thinking and speaking from the beginning and avoiding to the utmost the process of mental translation. Vocabulary selection, the sequence of the written material and educational skills, are designed to achieve in a short time the goals desired by the student. With the Direct Method, the students learn grammar inductively, without complicated explanations, through the repetitive practice of phrases and daily situations, so that they assimilate the rules in a gradual way and deduce their own conclusions.
The principal emphasis of this method is the correct pronunciation of words and the acquisition of new vocabulary through practical demonstrations, objects or drawings, and for abstract terms, by the association of ideas in the new language.
