""Rolling back through our 36 years as a Harley-Davidson Dealer brings us to today’s longer Sunday post. Tell us if you remember a Harley model called the Street Stalker. Sorry, that’s a trick question… there wasn’t one. But the title is there in H-D’s history – Street Stalker was the name of Custom Bodywork Kits from H-D Genuine Accessories.
The kits were sold in Stages 1, 2, and 3 levels from 1996 to 1999 to fit Fat Boy and Heritage Classic models, either in primed finish or Factory painted. Bikes completed with the kits, especially Stage 3, were commonly known just as Fat Boy or Heritage Street Stalkers. Any still for sale or auction today (they’re rare) retain just the Street Stalker name.
In the 1990s there were strong themes from custom builders in the USA – often using FXR models as their bases – and common sights were straight-cut rear fenders, stretched fuel tanks, headlight top-fairings or shrouds, and shorty-cut front fenders. The Motor Company moved towards offering those visuals via the Street Stalker kits.
Our memory is a little vague on this, but we think Stage 1 was just the headlight nacelle including upper forks covers, Stage 2 was the nacelle, rear fender including stop/tail lights, seat, and side-mount plate bracket.
Stage 3 went all the way with the headlight nacelle, front and rear fenders, rear lights, stretched 5-gallon fuel tank, tank/dash panel, seat, front spoiler, and side-mount plate bracket.
A full Stage 3 Street Stalker was (and is if you can find one) a stylish and very contemporary design for those late 1990s years, and there is a Vivid Black one in the Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee.
The last year of kit production was 1999, and of course in 2000 some of the styling cues were tidied and smoothed and introduced on a full-Factory-production new model… the beautiful Deuce. The Deuce featured that straight-cut rear fender, stretched fuel tank, a stretched fork rake, and was clearly designed and to be the classiest offering in that popular chopper style of the mid and late 90s.
Since then, styles have changed, performance has rocketed up to astounding levels, and in 2026 it could be argued that any Harley-Davidson – your Harley too – is a Street Stalker, a backroads stalker, and a highway stalker… with all the style and sound to turn every head and attract every eye. ""
